Competition Rules and Regulations
General
- Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival (RHMPA) is organized by Canadian Music and Performing Arts Association (CMPAA), a not-for-profit organization in Canada.

- Participants may only change the information or group participation details given once before the deadline. Administration fees may be charged after the registration deadline.
- It is important to read the rules and regulations carefully. Please acknowledge that by entering this competition, you agree to all Festival rules and regulations. There will be no refund after registration for any reason. RHMPA and CMPAA are not responsible for adjustments to any incorrect information provided. RHMPA and CMPAA have final rights to amend any arrangements of the competition.
- Participants will be disqualified for not following the rules and regulations.
Syllabus and Registration
- Participants may sign up for more than one group in the competition (except the age group)
- Participants who register for a category that is not at the appropriate age group or level will receive comments but will not be considered for placement.
- A confirmation email will be sent to the email address used in the entry application and a further email will be sent one to two weeks prior to the competition date to confirm the schedule for the categories. We will also announce the competition schedule on our official website www.richmondhillmusicfestival.com.
- Please ensure you check your junk mail and spam folders. If you have not received a confirmation email within two days of registering, please contact us.
On and after the competition day
- Participants should arrive 10 minutes before their scheduled class time. Make sure to register at the front desk.
- Equipment - Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival will provide one grand piano and one music stand on the competition day.
- Original published music should be given to adjudicators on the competition day, at the start of the class.
- Participants must provide their own accompanist and page-turner, and a second music stand if needed, at their own expense.
- There will be no rehearsal before the competition.
- Parents may record the performance of their own child but any other form of photography or recording is prohibited.
- Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old.
- Memorization is required in the competition. Participants will receive adjudication but will not be considered for placement if the piece is not played from memory.
- Only one movement should be presented for all Sonata or Sonatina (including RCM List B) during the competition.
- Adjudicators will have the right to stop the performance if it is over the time limit.
- No section of music is to be repeated except D.C al fine or as requested in the score.
- The decision of the jury is final and not subject to appeal or reconsideration.
- Participants will not be allowed to perform in a group if they arrive after the last performance of that group. There will, however, be one opportunity for latecomers to participate in another group, subject to admin fees. No refunds will be issued.
- Participants must stay for the full duration of the class in order to receive adjudication and be considered for placement. There will be no placement and written comments given if the participants choose to leave before the announcement of placement.
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes (certificate) will be awarded to the participants at the end of the competition.
- Adjudicators have the right to decide to award all or selected place prizes and number of prizes according to the performances. Participants are not allowed to approach the adjudicator during or after the competition to discuss any competition matter as the decision is final. Participants and parents should contact at info@richmondhillmusicfestival.com if they have any questions. Any form of disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
- Marksheets for all participants and certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be handed out to each participant at the end of each class. Original copies will not be kept after the day of the competition. First Honor Certificates will be issued to participants who do not win 1st to 3rd place prizes but reach 85 marks or above.
- All participants who receive one 1st place prize will receive a Trophy if they have signed up for the Award Ceremony. There will be admission fees and small admin fees for each trophy. Participants who won TWO or more 1st place prize will have the chance to perform during the award ceremony, under the final decision of RHMPA. Date will be announced later.
Release and Waiver
Release - The participant, hereby waives, releases, and grants to and for the benefit of the Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival and/or its assignees, any and all rights the participants may have any recordings, videography, and/or photographs made by or for the Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival of any event organized by it. The participant understands and agrees that by virtue of this waiver, release, and grant of rights, the Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival will have the right to make full and unrestricted use of such recordings, videography, and/or photographs, without any fee or other compensation owed to the participant.
Waiver - The participant, fully and in good faith intending to be bound thereby, does hereby promise not to initiate any claim, lawsuit, or other legal action, pertaining to any action or omission by the Canadian Music and Performing Arts Association relating directly or indirectly to the Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival as to which application is herewith being made.
Participants acknowledge that you have read carefully and agree to all Festival rules and regulations above once you sign up for the competition. There will be no refund after registration for any reason. RHMPA and CMPAA are not responsible for any adjustments for any incorrect information provided. RHMPA and CMPAA have final rights to amend any arrangements of the competition.
